I mean by any directory like it is (ANY DIRECTORY) On your computer.
For exemple you can extract it on C:\ Or C:\Games\ or another directory (Folder).

The game is DIRECT PLAY and does not require installation.
extract the rar file using winrar in any folder then start the game using CoD1mp.exe for multiplayer or CoD1sp.EXE for singleplayer

then extract it to your game directory.
If you get the same error, try extracting it to
C:\Windows\system32
